During the International Conference of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), Marc Francke and Maarten-Jan Evers will be giving a presentation on the subject "The impact of long-term lease on the selling prices of properties in Amsterdam". The event takes place from 8 – 11 September in Niagara Falls (Ontario, Canada).

Leasehold in Amsterdam

Most buildings in Amsterdam are built on land owned by the municipality. In the context of the valuations for the Real Estate Valuation Act, adjustments must be made for the leasehold. In 2019, Marc Francke conducted research to determine to which extent buyers take future land lease payments into account when buying a home. The results of this study will be presented at the IAAO event. Marc and Maarten-Jan show that this depends on the phase in the real estate market cycle and the time remaining before the contract expires. The presentation will take place on 9 September, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The IAAO conference is an annual event for real estate specialists who perform valuations in the context of taxation. The conference is attended by more than 1000 participants from all over the world. IAAO is a nonprofit, educational, and research association. It is a professional membership organization of government assessment officials and others interested in the administration of the property tax. IAAO was founded in 1934, and now has a membership of more than 7,000 members worldwide from governmental, business, and academic communities.
